Rangers C Mika Zibanejad missed his sixth consecutive game due to a concussion.

The Seattle D held MVP candidate Carson Wentz to 45 passing yards in the first half, as the ‘Hawks took a 10-3 lead into the locker room. Wentz finished with 348 yards through the air, but most of that production came when Philly was in come-back mode. The Seahawks also turned Wentz over twice (one interception, one fumble), both in their own end zone, robbing the Eagles of scoring opportunities.

MLB provides long-term disability for umpires who cannot work because of concussion effects, the same as it does for other permanent injuries.

Scott wonders about umpires who are cleared as part of the concussion protocol and then face the choice of continuing to work and risk further injury, or leaving the game.

“That needs to be addressed,” he said. “Maybe my situation can be a catalyst for that.”

Zibanejad has been skating on his own and participated in New York’s morning skate, but has not been cleared for contact. … New York D Marc Staal skated in his 719th game, tying Andy Bathgate for 11th place on the franchise’s career games list. … Stars F Jason Dickinson, who was recalled from the minors over the weekend, played on Dallas’ fourth line. … Dallas F Antoine Roussel was held out after suffering an upper-body injury against the Golden Knights on Saturday.

Even struggling from the field, Russell Westbrook managed to record a triple-double, and he converted two game-winning free throws in overtime.

Westbrook’s free throws with 5.2 seconds left gave him 20 points on the night to go with 14 assists and 11 rebounds as the Oklahoma City Thunder rallied for a 102-101 victory over the Memphis Grizzlies on Saturday night.panthers_096

Maple Leafs look to continue torrid run vs. Flyers

“When you’re at eight, nine, 10 in a row, most teams would start to point fingers and start to just find excuses,” Giroux told the Philadelphia Daily News. “That wasn’t the case. We were all in the same boat, and no one went over to the dark side. We stuck together, and that shows a lot of what this team is made of.”

Colorado mustered only seven goals during its losing streak but equaled that total in this game.

“When you lose a handful in a row you’ve got to stick with the process,” Avalanche coach Jared Bednar said. “I think that’s what our guys did tonight.”

“I think Sutton is the most underrated player in this draft,” the GM said, speaking on the condition of anonymity. (NFL GMs are not allowed to comment publicly on current college players.) “He’s got some flaws but you watch him on film and you see some things that translate well on Sundays.

“There’s a chance he’s the first wide receiver off the board.”

The Cardinals gained 64 yards in the first half and 197 in the second.

Blaine Gabbert completed 17 of 26 for 178 yards for Arizona with no interceptions, but was sacked eight times, most by a Cardinals quarterback this season. Kerwynn Williams rushed for 73 yards as Arizona outgained Tennessee on the ground 136-65.

Garoppolo leads 49ers to 26-16 win over Texans

Jimmy Garoppolo threw for a career-high 334 yards and a touchdown to help the San Francisco 49ers to their second straight win, 26-16, over the Houston Texans on Sunday.

The Rams suffered several injury scares in their Week 14 game, though none of them came close to Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz potentially tearing his ACL on a negated touchdown run.

Trumaine Johnson, who is on his second consecutive franchise tag, ended the game in concussion protocol, which means the Rams could be without their top two cornerbacks heading into a road game against the division-rival Seattle Seahawks next Sunday.

Left tackle Andrew Whitworth injured his ankle in the second quarter, but he returned in the second half. Right tackle Rob Havenstein injured his ankle in the fourth quarter and didn’t come back, prompting Darrell Williams to enter the game. Williams was immediately beaten by defensive end Chris Long on an eventual strip sack of Jared Goff. McVay did not have an update on Havenstein.

“I was upfront and honest with Eli,” McAdoo told reporters Friday, via ESPN. “I don’t have any regrets there.”

However, McAdoo’s assertion he is “on the same page” as Mara – a phrase he repeated three times during Friday’s press conference – doesn’t seem to hold up. McAdoo said Tuesday the plan was to start Manning in Sunday’s matchup with the Raiders and replace him with Geno Smith for the second half; Mara said Wednesday that the plan was to start Manning and keep him in the game “if he’s playing well in the first half, we’re winning the game, it looks like we’ve got a chance, the offense is clicking.”

Tarasenko nets 2, gets in rare fight as Blues top Oilers 8-3

Vladimir Tarasenko dropped his gloves and inspired his teammates.

On a night when he had two goals and two assists , Tarasenko got in a rare fight Tuesday during the St. Louis Blues’ 8-3 victory over the Edmonton Oilers.

“Our offense line has been banged up here of late,” Lynch said. “I don’t want it to sound like, ‘We’re willing to send C. J. Beathard out there to get beat up,’ but we feel like that’s going to settle down.”

“We lost Pierre Garcon (to a season-ending disc injury) and we’re playing frankly a lot of young guys,” Lynch said. “Marquise Goodwin, who’s been a number three guy, he’s our number one right now. That’s a little bit of a struggle.”

Well, at least until midway through the second quarter. That’s when Burfict got ejected for touching an official following a play that ended out of bounds.

Burfict, who was flagged for unnecessary roughness two snaps earlier, sauntered off the field showing no signs of remorse for letting down his teammates while making the Johnny Manziel “money” gesture to fans at Nissan Stadium.

We’re back for the second half in Seattle. The Seahawks will start the period’s opening drive at their 28.

Meanwhile, it’s another week and another court hearing … and likely another starting assignment for Elliott in Atlanta on Sunday.

But at some point, the time could come for Elliott to sit out several weeks. At this point, even though they’re prepared to play without their star running back, the Cowboys have to hope it’s not until the start of the 2018 season.nike_steelers_3266

Manfred said stripping the Braves of the 13 players was not sufficient punishment

He said “additional sanctions are warranted to penalize the club for the violations committed by its employees.”

Therefore, the Braves will be prohibited from signing any international player for more than $10,000 during the 2019-20 signing period. Also, the team’s international signing bonus pool for the 2020-21 signing period will be reduced by 50 percent.

Bradley Chubb, DE, North Carolina State — Chubb was a one-man wrecking crew in N.C. State’s 17-14 win at Boston College. The 6-4, 275-pound senior had eight tackles with 2 1/2 sacks and a forced fumble. He continues to assert himself as the top defensive draft prospect.

Cam Newton with another big play for Carolina. This time, he keeps the ball on a zone-read play and runs for 69 yards, moving the Panthers to the Miami 18.

Touchdown, Miami. Kenyan Drake accelerates through the line of scrimmage and makes a Carolina defender miss in the secondary on his way to a 66-yard touchdown run. The Dolphins now trail 31-14 with 5:47 to play in the third quarter.

On the bright side in the AFC, Brady is playing as well as ever. But with Brady at age 40, nobody knows how long he can continue executing at such a high level before his career goes into decline.

The Saints survive here, thanks to playing the doormat Buccaneers in Week 17 while the Falcons and Panthers play each other. Atlanta will make familiar noise with a 6-1 finish, including big wins over both rivals. Carolina’s offensive inconsistency will lead to a couple clunkers like the Bears game in Week 7.

In the end, with the NFC North and NFC West both looking less certain to punch two tickets to the playoffs, the opportunity is there for all three NFC South teams to crash the party, with a chance for all three to play in the divisional round.nike_steelers_722

It looked like nothing could top the bad beat in Cleveland, until the ending of this game happened.

The third-year NHLer scored his sixth and seventh goals of the season, one at even strength and one with the extra skater, in a 3-2 shootout loss to the Anaheim Ducks on Monday. As long as Donskoi remains fixed on a scoring line with Logan Couture and continues to skate with the secondary, if not the primary, power play, the 25-year-old boasts sufficient upside to justify rostering in deeper fantasy leagues.

With three minutes left, Matt Moore connected with Kenny Stills on a 61-yard touchdown to tie the game at 20. At that point, those on the under were hoping for a field goal to make it a 23-20 final. That scenario looked as though it had played out perfectly, as Patrick Murray’s 35-yard field goal with four seconds left indeed put Tampa Bay up by three.

The Sierra-Leonean rookie only ran for 42 yards on eight carries but he broke off a 24-yard run embarrassing the Washington defense in the process.

But wait…there was more. Kamara then caught six passes for 74 yards and most importantly, the game tying touchdown (as he juggled the ball) before also running in the two point conversion to help the Saints overcome a 15-point deficit. From there the Saints took the game into overtime and finalized a 34-31 victory.

“Third downs, we’re going to show it from the conventional camera because that’s the most important down in football,” Gaudelli said, via Pro Football Talk. “Once we’re inside the red zone we’re going to show it from the conventional camera. We want to try to be smart about it and not just say, ‘Here’s SkyCam come hell or high water.’ It’s, ‘Here’s SkyCam in the most advantageous places.'”

President Trump: Marshawn Lynch showed ‘great disrespect!’ during anthems in Mexico

President Trump on Monday said the NFL should suspend Marshawn Lynch for sitting during the national anthem after the Raiders running back took a seat Sunday before Oakland’s game in Mexico City but stood for Mexico’s national anthem.

Lynch’s moves Sunday weren’t unprecedented. Earlier this season, in NFL games in London, some players kneeled for the U.S. anthem but stood for “God Save the Queen.”

The president’s first tweet of the day pushed him into the sports world again after a weekend in which he was embroiled in a back and forth over how much he helped get three UCLA players released after their detainment in China.

Raiders running back Marshawn Lynch enjoyed two rushing touchdowns in his first game back from a one-game suspension. It’s the first time Lynch has had two rushing TDs in a game since Dec. 21, 2014.

Kate, who no longer drives for Uber, said she doesn’t want money, but wanted to tell the truth “about a powerful man who felt entitled to my body when all I wanted to do was my job.”

“If I’m silent, I fear that further harm will come to other women, if it hasn’t already,” she said. “He sexually assaulted me, and I have every right to tell the damn truth about it.”

A spokesperson for Uber told BuzzFeed News in a statement that Winston was permanently removed from the app after Kate filed an incident report.

Raiders break ground on new stadium in Las Vegas

The Raiders have taken the next step in their move to Las Vegas.

The Raiders’ relocation to Las Vegas was approved by NFL owners in March after 31 of the 32 owners voted in favor of the move. The final piece of the funding puzzle for the $1.9 billion stadium fell into place last month when the Nevada Assembly and Senate approved a room tax increase designed to raise $750 million for construction.

Green went way off Sunday, to be sure, so far that after he got a completely justified ejection, he still had to be restrained by coach Marvin Lewis, then escorted to the locker room by a staffer as he continued to shout, glare and point at everyone on the field.

Now, of course, none of that might be traced to the state of the franchise, and after the game, Lewis only hinted at a reason. Green apologized to his teammates in the locker room, he said; he also apologized when talking to reporters.

Did it ever get to him. You seriously wonder if, all things considered, Green is owed an apology, instead, from his chronically dysfunctional organization. If Green simply cracked over this mess of a season, whoblame him?

There’s no certainty that Blaine Gabbert, despite playing well in Sunday’s loss to the Texans, will start next week against Jacksonville, leaving open the possibility that Drew Stanton could regain the starting job while Matt Barkley waits in the wings. Even though Stanton beat San Francisco in Week 9, Gabbert has shown more long-term promise than Stanton for a franchise that’s in need of long-term stability at quarterback. There’s also the possibility that Carson Palmer could come back for the last two weeks of the season. The cast is off his broken left arm. While Gabbert’s talent is evident and readily available, the entire situation is still murky for Arizona. — Josh Weinfuss

Boeser scores twice, leads Canucks past Penguins

Jake Guentzel scored twice, both on the power play, for Pittsburgh and now has eight this season. The Penguins started the season with wins in seven of their first 11, but now have just four wins in their last 12. Pittsburgh gave up two power-play goals for the second straight game and has allowed 10 in its last six.

The Bruins did not have LW Anders Bjork (undisclosed), LW Brad Marchand (upper body injury), RW David Backes (colon surgery) and D Adam McQuaid (broken right fibula). .Boston announced RW Jordan Szwarz had been sent down to AHL Providence. .The Devils announced Friday’s home game against Vancouver will coincide with the team hosting the NHL and NHLPA “joint initiative Hockey Fights Cancer” as part of the “annual Cancer Awareness Month.”

It’s all part of Gordon’s reinstatement into the NFL after he had been suspended the past two seasons and for 53 or the Browns last 58 games.

Gordon was reinstated conditionally by the NFL on Nov. 1. He was allowed to be in the building and work out on his own for two weeks, and is allowed to practice for two weeks before he can play in a game.

That meant he needed another season of at least six games to be credited for his third season, which would have made him eligible for restricted free agency, an appealing option to a player with as much talent as Gordon.

But he played no games in 2015 and ’16, though, and will only play five this season.nike_patriots_558

Broncos address ‘soft’ label after loss to Bengals pushes skid to six games

So, are the Broncos soft? (Asking for a friend.)

Their 20-17 loss Sunday to the Bengals dropped Denver to 3-7 and extended its losing streak to six games.

General manager John Elway, speaking Friday at a ceremony honoring former Broncos coach Red Miller and Pro Football Hall of Fame running back Terrell Davis, traced the current struggles to a fast start to 2017 that led to complacency: “To be dead honest with you, we got a little bit soft. We went 4-0 in the preseason, we started out 3-1, then we get a bye week, and if you exhale in this league, you’re in trouble.”

Nose tackle Domata Peko: “Losing five in a row, that’s soft. How many turnovers we’ve been giving away, that’s soft. Dropping punt returns, that’s softness. Letting people run on us last week and the week before — that’s what coach was telling us, too, and he showed us that last night.

“It wasn’t what he had hoped for or what we had hoped for, but young players experience things like this. We have to push through it,” McDermott added. “You know when you put a young QB out there, there will be some struggles. I’m going to take my time and evaluate who will be the starting quarterback next week. I’m going to make the decision that I think is right for the team.”

The Bills (5-5) play will travel to Kansas City (6-4) next week before taking on the AFC East-leading Patriots (8-3) on Dec. 3 as they battle to keep their playoff hopes alive. The Bills have two games remaining against both the Patriots and Dolphins (4-6) over the final six weeks with a home game against the Colts (3-7) nestled in on Dec. 10.

“Who’s starting at QB next week is neither here nor there today,” Taylor said following Sunday’s game. “We’re 5-5, and as a team, we need to fix this and get back to winning moving forward.

“I knew the situation going into the game. I’ll still support Nathan if he’s the guy.”broncos_094-500x500
